President William Ruto has announced plans to launch the construction of the Thika-Museum Hill Expressway in September, aimed at easing long-standing traffic congestion between Thika and Museum Hill.

Speaking during a church service at Jesus Christ Compassion Ministry, Ruiru, Kiambu County on Sunday, President Ruto revealed that the government has already allocated significant funds to infrastructure projects in the county.

“Today, the money we have invested in Kiambu County this year alone is Sh15 billion,” he said.

The President highlighted the ongoing road project connecting Pangani to Ndenderu, noting that it is earmarked for dualling at an estimated cost of Sh22 billion.

“That road costs Sh22 billion, and we have that money—when the contractor arrives, we will build it and complete it,” he stated, underscoring the administration’s commitment to ensuring timely project delivery.

In addition to the Pangani-Ndenderu corridor, President Ruto announced plans to extend the road network from Kamakis to Kiambu town.

“We will connect this road from Kamakis here all the way to Kiambu town, and even though you didn’t ask for it, I planned it myself,” he said.

The expansion, he noted, is intended to address persistent traffic jams that affect commuters in the area.

He specifically cited the traffic bottleneck at Githurai, describing its impact on daily movement toward Museum Hill.

“I said the traffic jam, when we pass through Githurai, causes inconvenience to people all the way to Museum Hill. So I am planning that the same way we built the Expressway from JKIA to Westlands,” he explained, drawing parallels with the successful Nairobi expressway project that connects Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Westlands.

President Ruto added that preparatory work is already underway, with formal construction scheduled to begin in September.

“Now I am working on a few things and in September I will come here to launch construction of the Expressway for the people of Kiambu from Thika to Museum Hill to eliminate that jam,” he said.

The Thika-Museum Hill Expressway is set to be one of the largest infrastructure projects in Kiambu County, reflecting the government’s focus on modernizing regional road networks and easing urban mobility challenges.
